How Much Do Dental Implants Cost in the UK?
By the team at Bollington Dental Practice, under the clinical direction of Dr Ellie Burrows, Principal Dentist. Updated August 2026.
Dental implants are the biggest single investment most people ever make in their teeth, and the prices you will see advertised range so widely that comparison feels impossible. This guide explains what implants actually cost in the UK, what is included at each price, and the questions worth asking before you commit.
The short answer
A single dental implant with its crown typically costs £2,000 to £3,500 in the UK. At Bollington Dental Practice, a consultation with imaging is £180 and a single implant with its restoration starts from £3,000, with a written plan giving you the exact cost before anything goes ahead.
Weighing implants up? At Bollington Dental Practice the placement and the crown are done in-house by one team, and a £180 consultation with 3D imaging ends in a written price for your case. Read our dental implants page or check the fees page.
What you are actually paying for
An “implant” is really three components plus a lot of skill: the titanium implant itself that bonds with your jawbone, the abutment that connects to it, and the custom crown that becomes your visible tooth. Around that sit the assessment, the imaging, the surgical placement, the fitting and the aftercare. When you see a strikingly low headline price, one of those pieces is usually missing from it, most often the crown, which can add £1,000 or more to a price that looked complete.
What affects the price
Two quotes for “an implant” can be £1,500 apart and both be honest. The main variables:
- Bone grafting. If bone has shrunk since the tooth was lost, grafting rebuilds it first and typically adds a few hundred pounds to over £1,000.
- Imaging. A 3D CBCT scan is the foundation of proper planning and is commonly £100 to £300 when charged separately. Ours is included in the £180 consultation.
- The implant system. Established brands with decades of published research cost practices more than budget systems, and that difference reaches your quote.
- How many teeth. Two implants can support a three-tooth bridge, so the per-tooth cost falls as treatment grows. A full arch fixed on four to six implants typically runs £10,000 to £20,000 in the UK.
- Who does the work. Surgical experience and in-house restoration cost more to provide than referring parts of the treatment out, which is usually why the same treatment is priced differently in the same town.
Questions to ask any practice
- Is the restoration included? The implant without its crown is half a treatment.
- Who places it and who restores it? Some practices refer the surgery elsewhere. Ours is done in-house, so one team is responsible for the whole result.
- What imaging is included? Proper planning needs proper imaging, not a quick look and a quote.
- What happens if something goes wrong? Implants last decades, and you want the practice that placed yours to be reachable for all of them.
Are implants worth it?
Compared with a bridge (from £600) or a denture (from £625), an implant costs more upfront. What you are buying is permanence: an implant does not rely on the neighbouring teeth, does not come out at night, and with good hygiene care routinely lasts decades. Spread over its lifetime, it is often the cheapest option per year, which is why patients who have lived with a denture are frequently the most enthusiastic implant patients we have.

Frequently asked questions
Can you get dental implants on the NHS?
Very rarely. NHS implants are limited to cases of clear clinical need, such as tooth loss from an accident or cancer treatment. For a routine missing tooth, implants are a private treatment.
How much does a full set of implants cost?
Replacing every tooth does not mean one implant per tooth. Full-arch solutions use four to six implants to support a fixed bridge, and costs run well into five figures. A consultation is the only honest way to price it, because it depends entirely on your bone and your goals.
How long do dental implants last?
The implant itself routinely lasts 20 years or more with good hygiene and regular check-ups. The crown on top does the daily chewing and may need replacing after 10 to 15 years, which is a smaller and cheaper job than the original placement.
Is it cheaper to get implants abroad?
Often, yes, and sometimes it works out. But implants need adjustment, maintenance and occasional repair for decades, and a bargain becomes expensive when the practice responsible for your implant is in another country. UK dentists also cannot always identify or source parts for unfamiliar implant systems placed abroad.
The honest starting point is an implant consultation (£180 including imaging) where we will tell you whether an implant is right for you, and what your exact cost would be. Call us on 01625 574609, and all our prices are on the fees page.
