How Much Do Dentures Cost in the UK?
Denture prices in the UK are confusing because the word covers everything from a single-tooth acrylic partial to a full implant-retained set. Here is what the ranges actually mean and how to judge a quote.
The short answer
Privately made dentures typically cost £500 to £1,500 for quality acrylic or chrome dentures, and more for premium or implant-retained options. At Bollington Dental Practice, dentures start from £625, made to fit properly rather than made to a price.
What you are choosing between
- Partial or full. A partial denture replaces some teeth and clips around the ones you keep; a full denture replaces the whole arch.
- Acrylic or chrome. Acrylic is the standard material and perfectly good for many cases. A cobalt chrome framework costs more but is slimmer, stronger and more secure for partial dentures.
- Conventional or implant-retained. A loose lower denture is the most common complaint we hear. Dental implants can anchor a denture firmly, at a higher overall cost.
Why the cheapest quote is rarely the bargain it looks
A denture is a handmade prosthetic, and the price largely reflects the time taken over impressions, try-ins and adjustments. Skimp on those stages and you get a denture that technically fits but is never quite comfortable, which usually ends up in a drawer. A good denture is the one you forget you are wearing.
Frequently asked questions
How long do dentures last?
Usually five to ten years. Your gums and bone slowly change shape over time, so even a well-made denture eventually loosens and needs relining or remaking. Regular check-ups let us catch this before it becomes uncomfortable.
Are chrome dentures worth the extra cost?
For partial dentures, usually yes. A cobalt chrome framework is thinner, stronger and grips your remaining teeth more securely than acrylic, which makes it noticeably more comfortable to wear and to eat with.
Can dentures be fixed in place?
Yes. Two or more dental implants can anchor a denture so it clicks into place and stops moving when you eat or speak. It costs more, but for patients who hate a loose lower denture it is often transformative.
