Looking for a cosmetic dentist near Macclesfield? Bollington Dental Practice is an independent, family-run practice just 10 minutes from Macclesfield town centre, and we have been improving smiles here since 1977. Whether you want teeth a few shades brighter, a chipped edge repaired or a full smile makeover planned properly, the starting point is the same: an honest conversation about what will actually suit your teeth.

Cosmetic treatments we provide

Teeth whitening. Professional at-home whitening with the Philips Zoom system, using custom-made trays and dentist-prescribed gel. The most popular cosmetic treatment we do, and usually the best value change you can make.

New to us? You can book your £89 new patient examination with Dr Ellie Burrows online, any time of day, including any X-rays needed. Prefer to talk? Call 01625 574609.

Composite bonding. Tooth-coloured composite shaped directly onto the tooth in a single visit, ideal for chips, worn edges, small gaps and reshaping. No drilling of healthy tooth in most cases.

Composite and porcelain veneers. Thin facings that change the shape, shade and alignment of front teeth. Composite is quicker and more affordable, porcelain is more durable and more stain-resistant. We will tell you honestly which suits your case.

Clear aligners. ClearCorrect aligners straighten teeth discreetly, and for many people mild straightening followed by whitening achieves what they thought would need veneers, at lower cost and without removing tooth tissue.

Crowns and tooth-coloured restorations. For teeth that need strength as well as appearance, including replacing old dark or failing fillings at the front.

Cosmetic dentistry fees

Every cosmetic case is different, so these are starting points rather than quotes. You will always have a written treatment plan with the full cost before anything begins.

  • Teeth whitening, Philips Zoom at-home system: £375
  • Composite bonding: from £175 per tooth
  • Composite veneers: from £225 per veneer
  • Porcelain veneers: from £650 per tooth
  • ClearCorrect clear aligners: from £2,499, with a free consultation for existing patients
  • New patient examination including X-rays: £89

Full pricing for every treatment is on our fees page. Cosmetic treatment is not available on the NHS, so this is private treatment wherever you have it done.

How a smile consultation works

Cosmetic dentistry done properly starts with an examination, not a sales pitch. For new patients that means the £89 new patient examination including any X-rays needed, because bonding, veneers or whitening placed over hidden decay or unstable gums will fail, and we would be the ones who let it happen. Once we know your mouth is healthy, the conversation turns to what you dislike about your smile and, just as importantly, what you like and want left alone.

You will get honest advice about which treatment actually fits your case, even when the honest answer is the cheaper one. Sometimes staining that looks like it needs veneers lifts with a professional clean and whitening; sometimes a single bonded edge transforms a smile that seemed to need six of everything. Whatever we agree goes into a written plan with itemised costs, and you take it home. There is no deposit taken in the room, no expiry date on thinking it over and no follow-up pestering. Patients who feel pressured make choices they regret, and regret is a terrible advertisement.

Timing questions come up at almost every consultation, so here are the usual answers. Health first, always: any decay or gum trouble is dealt with before cosmetic work begins. Shade changes come before shape changes, because bonding and veneers are colour-matched to your teeth as they are on the day of fitting. And nothing is booked until you have had the plan at home long enough to be sure. A smile you will wear every day for years deserves more than an impulse decision.

Photographs of your own teeth are often taken at this stage as well, because seeing your smile the way others see it is frequently more persuasive than any mirror, in both directions: some patients discover the flaw they fixated on barely shows, others finally see what they meant. Either way, the plan is built around your teeth and your face, not a template.

Whitening in depth

Whitening deserves a fuller explanation than most pages give it, because it is the treatment where the gap between doing it properly and doing it cheaply is widest. Our system is Philips Zoom at £375 complete. A scan or impressions of your teeth are used to make whitening trays moulded precisely to you, and you wear them at home with professional-strength gel that only a dental practice can legally supply, following a routine we set out for your teeth specifically. The custom fit matters twice over: the gel sits evenly against every tooth for an even result, and it stays off your gums, which is what prevents the sore patches people associate with cheap kits.

A word on the law, since it surprises people. In the UK, teeth whitening is legally classed as dentistry. It may only be carried out by a dentist, or by a hygienist or therapist on a dentist’s prescription, and beauticians or salons offering it are breaking the law however professional the packaging looks. Products sold over the counter are restricted to gel far weaker than a dentist can prescribe, which is why their results disappoint. For the full picture on safety, sensitivity and what whitening can and cannot change, our guide is whitening safe covers it honestly.

Results vary with the starting shade and the cause of the discolouration, which is another reason the examination comes first. Staining from tea, coffee and red wine responds well; greyness from within the tooth is slower and less predictable; and no gel changes the colour of existing crowns, veneers or fillings, which is why whitening always comes before new cosmetic work and never after. We tell you what your teeth are likely to achieve before you spend anything on trays. Sensitivity is the honest downside worth naming: some people notice a day or two of it while whitening, it settles afterwards, and pacing the gel differently usually keeps it comfortable.

Bonding and veneers, told straight

These two get confused constantly, so here is the distinction as we explain it in the chair. Composite bonding is tooth-coloured material sculpted directly onto the tooth to repair chips, close small gaps and rebuild worn edges, usually with no drilling of healthy tooth at all, which means the tooth underneath stays exactly as nature made it. It is quick, repairable and kind to enamel, and for small flaws it is very often all that is required.

Veneers resurface the whole front face of a tooth. Composite veneers, from £225 per tooth, are built by hand and suit moderate changes of shape and shade. Porcelain veneers are made in a laboratory and reserved for the bigger transformations, where several front teeth need their colour, length and alignment changed together and the finish needs to last for many years. Which route suits you depends on your teeth, your budget and how dramatic a change you actually want, and we will set out the case for each rather than steering you to the dearest.

Longevity is the other honest conversation. Composite picks up stain and wear over the years and will eventually want polishing or patching, which is easy and inexpensive precisely because it bonds so readily. Porcelain holds its finish far longer, but a damaged porcelain veneer is remade rather than patched. Neither is right or wrong; they are different bargains, and you should choose one knowing the terms.

Straighter teeth without a mouth full of metal

Crooked or crowded front teeth are often the real reason a smile bothers someone, and disguising crookedness with restorations means cutting healthy teeth down. Moving them instead is frequently the more conservative choice. We straighten teeth with ClearCorrect clear aligners from £2,499: a series of near-invisible removable trays, changed at set intervals, that nudge teeth into line while you carry on with normal life. You take them out to eat and brush, most people notice them far less than they expected, and progress is reviewed here at the practice rather than left to an app. Straighten first, then whiten, then bond any remaining rough edges: that sequence, in that order, is how many of our most natural-looking results are built.

Suitability is assessed at an examination first, since aligners need healthy gums and settled dental work to move against. Most mild and moderate crowding responds well; a few bites genuinely need specialist orthodontics instead, and if yours is one of them we will say so plainly and point you in the right direction rather than sell you a compromise.

Why our results stay honest

Cosmetic dentistry marketing is drowning in stock photography and filtered social media smiles, and we want no part of it. You will not find a stock-photo grin standing in for our work anywhere on this site. What we point prospective patients to instead is real evidence: the experiences of real patients on our testimonials page and Google reviews written in their own words, unedited. We would rather show you the honest range of what is achievable for teeth like yours, at the consultation, than advertise perfection borrowed from an image library. Expectations set truthfully are the foundation of every happy cosmetic outcome, and the reviews suggest our patients agree.

Honesty also means saying no. If whitening will not lift the particular discolouration you have, if bonding will not survive your bite, or if the look you want cannot be produced from the teeth you own without harming them, you will hear that at the consultation rather than after the invoice. Turning work away is occasionally the most useful thing a cosmetic dentist can do, and it is why the recommendations that do get made can be trusted.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I start with cosmetic treatment?

With an examination. Before any cosmetic work we need to know your teeth and gums are healthy, because decay, gum disease or a failing filling underneath will undermine whatever we put on top. For new patients that is a new patient examination at £89 including X-rays, and we will discuss your options at the same appointment.

Which is better, bonding or veneers?

It depends on the problem rather than the budget. Composite bonding is excellent for chips, worn edges and small gaps, is done in one visit and removes little or no tooth tissue. Veneers suit bigger changes in shape, shade or alignment and last longer, but involve more preparation. We will show you which applies to your teeth rather than selling you the more expensive option by default.

Should I whiten my teeth before other cosmetic work?

Almost always yes. Whitening only changes natural tooth tissue, so any bonding, veneers or crowns are matched to whatever shade your teeth are on the day they are made. Whitening first means the new work is matched to your brighter shade, rather than leaving you with restorations that look darker afterwards.

Where are you exactly?

You will find us at 19 Bollington Road, Bollington, Macclesfield SK10 5EJ, about 10 minutes’ drive from Macclesfield town centre on the main road through Bollington, with free parking right outside.

Popular with our Macclesfield cosmetic patients

The most requested combination is a hygiene appointment to remove staining, then teeth whitening, then bonding to tidy any chips once the new shade has settled. Hygiene appointments are £60 for 20 minutes or £89 for 30 minutes, with an Airflow stain-removal add-on at £20. If you are unsure whether whitening alone will get you where you want to be, read our guide to what at-home whitening can and cannot do.
