What does a dental examination cost?

A new patient examination costs £89 including X-rays, and routine examinations for existing patients are £60. There are no hidden extras: any treatment you might need is priced openly on our fees page and agreed with you in a written plan before anything goes ahead.

What happens at your first examination?

Your dentist will take a full history, examine your teeth, gums and mouth, take any X-rays needed, and carry out a soft-tissue check that includes screening for mouth cancer. You will get an honest picture of your oral health, a chance to ask anything you like, and a clear plan, which for many patients is simply “come back in six to twelve months”.

Why do we take X-rays?

X-rays show what no examination can see: decay between teeth, problems under existing fillings, and bone health below the gum line. Catching these early is the difference between a small filling and a root canal, which is why they are included in every new patient examination.

How often should you have a check-up?

Most patients benefit from an examination every six to twelve months, and your dentist will recommend the right interval for you. Regular checks combined with hygiene appointments are the most cost-effective dentistry there is, because they catch problems while they are still small.
